Bradman To Be Captain

Sir Donald Bradman will come out of retirement to captain the Prime Minister’s eleven for a match against the M.C.C. at Canberra’s Manuka oval on February 6. The Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, last night announced the names of the 12 players from whom the team will be chosen. They are: Sir Donald Bradman (captain), S. J. Loxton (vice-captain). R. Benaud, A. Davidson. R. N. Harvey, R. Flockton, K. Mackay, W. Grout, R. Cowper, S. Smith, G. Smith and D. Chipp (a Liberal in the Federal Government from Victoria).
Wellington Beats Southland (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Jan. 23. Wellington beat Southland outright by nine wickets in a representative cricket match which finished at Invercargill today. Wellington required 60 runs in its second innings to beat Southland and scored this in just more than 40 minutes. Scores: — Southland.—First innings 107. Second innings 163 (W. Robertson 61, R. Laurie 28, K. O'Connor 25; B. D. Morrison three for 45). Wellington.—First innings 211. Second innings 60 for one wicket (C. P. Bilby not out 45; K. Nicholson one for 19).
