The authority compriesd Mr R. W. Edgley (chainnen), Mr H. L. Wise, and Mr J. L. Haslett. The apphestieae were granted subject to the proviso tost the new station must be completed to tha authorty» satisfaction before th* licence can operate. The application was opposed by H. R Bailey, Ltd. (Mr P. M. Joyce). M. fhrke. Reliance Service Station (Mr J. R. Woodward). E. W. Sextan. Airport Service Station (Mr h, J. de Gold!), and the Retail Motor Trade Association (Mr M. Bardie Boys). Mr Hunter said Whiteley and Walker had been forced to move from their former premise* in William street by the termination of a lease. A section had been purchaser! in King street, 110 yard* sway, and a modem garage built. King street was on the main south route.
To Move Pump An application by I. C. Todd (Mr J. P~ Mactertane). a Morven garage proprietor, to. change the retail selling point of one pump was granted provided the change was not made before the completion of new premises. Other provisos were that the licence woud bear the usual garage tag and that the applicant would furnish the authority with copies of his annual accounts for the three financial years following the move. Th* site of the pump waa also to be approved by the authority. The pump was to be moved from the present sarege premises. Main road, Morven, to proposed service station ana garage premises on the corner of the main Picton-Bluff highway and Horsnell’s road. Mr J. R. Woodward appeared in objection for Roadhouse Services, Ltd., and Mr M. Hardie Boys appeared for the Retail Motor Trade Association. Other objectors, who were not represented and did not apnear, were D. E. Sadler, Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association. Ltd., and E. J. Smith.
Mr Edgley said the application set something of a problem. but It was felt the present licence was being well exercised. If it had been a new application the authority would have felt constrained to refuse it. but although the application was not strong it would be granted. Licence Refuted
A licence to retail petrol from one screened pump at his garage at William street, Ashburton, was refused Gavin James Wonnacott (Mr D. J. Clark). An application to make sales otherwise than through pump*
The application was opposed by the Retail Motor Trades' Association (Mr M. Hardie Boys).
