U.K. Frigate Abandoned
(NJEPA.-Routor—Copyright) LONDON. Januaiy 11. The British frigate. Pheasant, a veteran of the Atlantic U-boat war, was abandoned today in heavy seas off Cornwall. Her captain and 14 ratings were winched to safety in gale force winds by two helicopters, the “Daily Sketch" reported.
The frigate was on her last voyage—in tow from Plymouth to Troon, Scotland, to be broken up. An Admiralty spokesman said tonight another attempt would be made to take the frigate ’in tow when the weather eased.
