BIRTHDAY TREATS
Flying With Grandfather "The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, January 11. When the grandchildren of Mr H. C. Urlwin, of Christchurch, have their eleventh birthday they qualify for a special treat with their grandfather. It is an air trip tn Auckland with a drive to the zoo and around the city.
Mr Urlwin yesterday made his third birthday visit and he had with the twins, Gary and Daryl Urlwin and Raymond Barton. Most of his family live in Christchurch, though some of the 13 grandchildren are in Wellington.
Next year, Mrs Urlwin will take the eldest of their granddaughters on the excursion for the 11-year-oldß.
Each trip follows the same programme: fly to Auckland by Viscount arriving around 1030 a.m.; met at Whenuapai by Mr Urlwin’s Auckland business manager, Mr W. Hillyard, who drives them to the zoo, along Tamaki Drive, over the harbour bridge, up One Tree Hill and then to catch the plane back at 4.30 p.m. For an hour after lunch Mr Urlwin snatches the opportunity to do some business. The boys are each given 10s, taken down Queen street by Mr Hillyard’s two daughters, and told to buy something for their mothers.
The idea of the tripe came about some years ago when one of the then small boys asked Mr Urlwin when be would take him for a plane ride. The boy’s parents said be could go when he was 11.
