Poll Shows Labour Support At Peak
(Special Crspdt. LONDON, Jan. 11. Sapport for the Labour Party over the last three months has risen to the highest point since 1957, according to the latest Gallup poll published in the “Daily Telegraph." Tbepoll ahowa Labour now boldine 45} per cent of vote*, giving M a 9} per cent, lead over the Conservatives.
To the question, “How would you vote if there were a general election tomorrow?” the following answers were given in percentage of voters, excluding the undecided, who were nine per cent of those questioned: Conservative 38, Labour 45}, Liberal 17}, others one. The poll found many people expected 1964 to be the year for the general election.
Major reasons for the unpopularity of the Conservatives are indicated by answers to other Gallup poll questions. Seventy-five per cent cannot see any signs their firm is busier now than it was a rear ago. Sixty-five per cent soy they cannot see any im-
provement tn their standard of living. Forty - five par cent—nearly one half of them under 25—would like to emigrate if they were free to do so. Sixty-five per cent believe Britain's foreign policy depends too much on the United States, and 78 per cent, can n longer accept that Britain is treated as an equal partner by the United States.
Thirty-two per cent only express positive preference for Britain to join the European Common Market From the Government's point of view, all these figures
are at, or vary near to, the woreg position recorded in the life of both this, and the previous Parlisment, says the “Daily Telegraph."
