“Little Effect On Smoking”

Report* linking cigarette amoking with cancer bad bad very little effect on tbe demand for cigarettes throughout the world, said Sir Duncan Oppenheim, chairman of the British-American Tobacco Company. Sir Duncan Oppenheim’s firm la an export associate of the Imperial Tobacco Company, tbe third largest company in Britain, with net assets exceeding £225 million. "Seles of cigarettes took quite a knock in Britain after the Royal College of Physicians report last year,** be said. "But they have recovered since then. “In moat places around the world where we have interests. however, the anticigarette report bad very little effect on sales.” The tobacco industry in Britain and America was spending considerable sums on medical rate arch on tbe effects of smoking, said Sir Duncan Oppenheim. A new biological research station bad recently been opened by tbe industry at Harrogate.
