Bombing At Ghana Political Rally

ACCRA, January 9.
Several persons were wounded by a bomb thrown among a crowd dispersing after a mass rally attended by President Nkrumah, of Ghana, in Accra last night
A man has been arretted in connexion with the incident, an Interior Ministry statement said. It said the bomb was thrown among toe crowd after Dr. Nkrumah had left the rally in the sports stadium.
Before leaving the stadium. Dr. Nkrumah mingled freely with party and Government leaders, and drove out amid thunderous cheers from the crowd of 25.000—cheers which suddenly fell silent as the explosion reverberated round the arena. The crowd stampeded when the blast was heard, until officials gained control and channelled them through the stadium exits. Ambulances with sirens screaming were on the scene within minutes to take the wounded to hospital. Additional police quickly cordoned off part of the stadium. As far as could be seen. Dr. Nkrumah had ectuaUy left the stadium before the blast and the bomb could not have been aimed at him. but at the crowd.

enunent was aware of the “conspirators.” Last September, a girl was injured by an explosion among a crowd of MOO outside Flagstaff House, President Nkrumah’s official residence, during celebrations to mark his escape from the August swassinatinn attempt In tugust a bomb was thrown at Dr. Nkrumah at a village near the border with Upper Volta. Several persons were killed and many others wounded.
