In December
On December 13, 14.6 hours of sunshine was recorded at Lincoln College, the highest daily total in that month since 1950. Sunshine for the whole month was considerably above average, totalling 281.3 hours, compared with 242.2 hours in December, 1961. The warm conditions throughout the month brought a steady ripening of all crops. As the month closed, some ryegrass for seed had been mown and early crops of oats harvested. Irrigation was continuous on most dairy farms during the month, and water was necessary for successful vegetable growing. The rainfall at Lincoln College for the month was 288 in. compared with 0.62 in in December, 1961. The rainfall for the year was 29.76 in. compared with 26 05in in 1961.
