AERO CLUB FLIGHTS

New Routes Set Out

To keep instrument-flying areas clear for commercial aircraft psing Christchurch Airport, the Civil Aviation Administration has laid down new arrival and departure routes for Canterbury Aero Club aircraft. The club’s newsletter says club aircraft going or coming from south and west must now fly over Kirwee, and traffic going or coming from the north must fly over Rangiora airfield. Unless otherwise cleared by the control tower club aircraft must fly at not more than 1000 ft within five miles of the airport, and pilots will now have to get a clearance from the tower to climb to 2500 ft when flying over the city and suburbs. A club training area has been arranged to the northwest and pilots wishing to climb to 4000 ft for stalling practice or other exercises must get a clearance from the tower to do so.
