NAZI IN CHILE
Extradition Sought

January 8. An attorney for the West German Government has formally requested extradition from Chile of the accused Nazi war criminal, Walter Rauff, according to United Press International. The attorney, Mr Eduardo Novoa, contended in the 48page brief he filed with the Chilean Supreme Court that both Chile and West Germany were signatories of an international convention which classified genocide as the gravest of all crimes, meriting automatic extradition. Rauff, 56, a resident of Chile for three years, is specifically accused of ordering the construction of two mobile execution chamber® for use against Jew®.
Rauff at first denied he had been a member ot the German Secret Service, but later admitted it, although maintaining he never had anything to do with ‘The Jewish problem.” Rauff® lawyer, Mr Enrique Schepeller, another German immigrant, was given io days to file a counter-brief. Rauff has been in gad since his arrest a month ago. Dutch Bank The Netherlands Bank announced today that it would lower its official bank rate to 3j per cent from 4 per cent from tomorrow.—Rotterdam, January 7.
