PUBLIC APPEAL FOR LEPERS

Record Collection Expected The New Zealand Lepers' Trust Board’s 1962-63 appeal is likely to result in the collection of a record sum for the alleviataion of suffering among lepers and other sick people in the South-West Pacific. The target set by the secretary of tbs board (Mr P. J. Twomey) is £lOO,OOO. The collecting year does not end until January 31 and the appeal has already reached the £92,000 mark. If, as he expects, this appeal, which is solely by circular, reaches the record figure of £lOO,OOO, the various mission bodies with which the Board co-operates—Angli-can, Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, Seventh Day Adventist, and South Sea Evangelical —will be given added help so that more lives may be saved, particularly those of mothers and their babies.
