Memorial Avenue

Sir, —I consider those correspondents who suggest that large trees should have been planted instead of shubs to be right off the beam. Large trees take years to grow to maturity and would cast shadows in the winter and cause patches of frost on the

shady side of the road which would be very dangerous for cars. We have a classic example of what these frosty conditions on the road can do at Bankside on the Main South road where several accidents have occurred. Flowering shrubs have much beauty. Azaleas, nhodothamnuis, rhododendrons or even nikau palms, poiwrtukawas or kowthaiis would look good, especially when in flower.— Yours, etc., S. W. HICKMOTT. December 12, 1962.
