Haskell Takes 8 For 11

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 16. An all-rounder. W. J. R. Haskell, stole the limelight with a sensational bowling spell in yesterday's Wellington senior cricket championship matches. Bowling his swingers. Haskell took eight Midland wickets for 11 runs. Midland was all out for 41. and the championship leaders plunged to outright defeat. Haskell, who reappears as a Wellington representative this season, was also the hero of University’s first innings. Batting well down the order, he scored 50 of University's 106 runs. Another shield player to shine was B. W. Sinclair, who again strack his best form in scoring 98. The Plunket Shield discard. T. G. McMahon, followed up his unbeaten century of last week with a solid 44. A century was scored by the Wellington College Old Boys’ batsman, J. W. Gilkinson. There were outright decisions in all four Wellington senior matches, the winners being University, Wellington, Wellington College Old Boys, and Kilbirnle. Kilbirnie now leads the championship. The former South African cricket captain, J. McGlew hit 102 not outfor Natal against Eastern Provinces in a Currie Cup match yesterday. McGlew has told selectors he will not be available for the tour of Australia next season.
