DEAD ANIMAL DISPOSAL

Eyre County Will Assist Farmers If any group of five or more farmers petitions the Eyre County Council for a disposal hole to bury dead animals, plant will be made available free of charge, it was decided ait the December meeting of the council. Individual farmers desiring a hole on their property will be required to pay the usual plant hire rates. The disposal of dead sheep was no joke, said Cr. R. G. Ward. Holes to bury dead sheep and proper facilities to cover them up were necessary. Cr. C. H. Tyson said the onus of disposing of dead animals was on the farmer, not the council. . If several farmers had a communal disposal hole it would be easier to cart carcases to it rather than to dig a separate hole every time an animal died, said Cr. Ward. Cr. J. E. Mannering said it would be easier to enforce the disposal of carcases if the council was prepared to help by making provision for it.
