BUS DRIVER BURNED

Acid Thrown At Face (NZ.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 11. A woman splashed acid into a bus driver’s face in New York today, but a quickthinking passer-b.y pulled the victim into a nearby church and washed his face with holy water. The driver, Mr Bernard Frize, aged 29, was alone with the woman in the bus as it was parked at a terminal, police said. Suddenly, the woman began waving her hands during what appeared to be an argument. Frize suddenly dashed out of the bus with acid over his face. A passer-by. Mr Perry Peterson, ran with Mr Frize to a church nearby, where he used holy water from the font to wash away the acid. Mr Frize had burns on his hands and one side of his face, but his eyes were untouched, police said. His condition was good. The woman fled. Later, the bus driver said the woman was Natalie Weprin. aged 42. a former girl friend. Police arrested her. She denied throwing the acid, but police said her arms were covered with acid burns and had been bandaged. United Press International reported.

A fireman said the acid was etrong enough to burn the paint off a bench on which Mr Frize lay before going to hospital.
