BUILDING OF NEW STAND
Work To Begin Next April Construction of the new No. 3 stand at Lancaster Park is expected to start next April and be completed late in 1964. It is the third stage of the plan to provide covered seating from the main entrance gate round to the old No. 4 stand. Mr H. C. Blazey, a member of the Victory Park Board, said yesterday that the new No. 2 stand was now completed and only needed some joinery work to be done to have it ready for the Plunket Shield matdies which start on December 29. The No. 2 stand, which has a seating capacity for 1600, will with the No. 1 stand covered seating for more than 6000.
The new No. 3 stand will provide seating for 6100. almost 4000 more than the capacity of toe old wooden stand which it will replace. When it is completed Lancaster Park will have a spectator capacity of more than 64,000. Mr Blazey said that the new stand was being financed by a membership scheme and a loan from toe New Zealand Rugby Union. Inquiries were stfll being received for membership tickets for the new stand and it appeared that the accommodation could be fully taken up, although application could still be made for tickets.
