Training Of Rebels (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter —Copt/rig ht) JESSELTON, December 11. Mr Donald Stephens, a leader of the Sabah Alliance Party, told the North Borneo Legislative Council today that many of the Brunei rebel leaders were either members of the Indonesian Communist Party or trained by that party. “We know that a number of these rebels were trained in Tarakan and inside Indonesian territory, although there is no proof that they were trained by Indonesian Army men.” The Party Raayat of Brunei had a link with the Indonesian Communist Party, or P.K.1., Mr Stephens said. “I prefer to believe that much of what has happened was unknown to Djakarta,” he said. “If this is the case, than it is true that the P.K.1., which in the past has relied only on propaganda to block Malaysia, has now also decided to resort to force.”
Tass Attacks “Colonialists” (N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW, December 11. Tass last night criticised the action of “British colonialists” in Brunei. A Tass article said Brunei had opposed plans for the formation of a Malaysian Federation and had demanded self-determination, “but the British colonialists, ignoring the will of the Brunei people, replied to this by stepping up the formation of Malaysia.
“Now the entire war machine of the British colonialists in the Far East has been set in action against the population of Brunei who have rebelled."
Ambulance Bodies.— A tender of £2650 for two new ambulance bodies was. accepted from Steel Brothers, Ltd., Addington, by the Christchurch sub-centre of the St. John Ambulance Association at its monthly meeting this week.
