COLLEGE HALL
Prizes For Design
Messrs L. N. Orchard and D. C. Allison, of Auckland, were present at the prizegiving of Christ’s College last evening when it was announced that they had won the £5OO first prize in the competition among old boys who are architects for the assembly hall design. There were 10 entries. Second prize of £2OO went to Mr G. P. Sellars, of Christchurch; third of £lOO to Mr F. M. Warren, of Christchurch; and fourth of £5O to Mr M. Fowler, of Wellington. Christ’s College had been singularly fortunate in its buildings, said the warden (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren). “Some of them date back to the beginnings of Canterbury and are redolent with tradition and, maybe at the same time, discomfort. They range forward to the most modern of our boardinghouses and are crowned by the magnificent memorial dining hall, second to none in the country, and the lovely memorial chapel, enlarged by the old boys and others, in which beats the heart of the school.”
