ST. HELENS NEW WING

Roof Now Complete The last slab of concrete for the roof of the new wing at St Helens Maternity Hospital, in Colombo street north, was poured this week, marking a stage in the building's completion. Work on the new fourstorey wing was begun by the contractors, John Calder, Ltd., in May, 1961, and is expected to finish late in 1963.

All ground-floor windows have been fitted, and the fitting of first-floor windowwall units has begun, and will continue as the units arrive. The window-wall units give the effect of a series of floor-to-ceiling windows along an entire walk The single-storey deliverytheatre unit, an adjunct to the new wing Is structurally complete, and is ready for floor and wall lining. Fibrous plaster linings are being fixed on the ground floor walls of the new wing, and acoustic tiles to the ceiling. Plumbing, heating and electrical installation work is keeping up well with the general contract. Work on a five-storey nurses’ home new wing at the hospital is expected to start early next year.
