CONSUMER SERVICE
Next Year's Tests
Products to be tested by toe Consumer Service next year include car batteries, electric shavers, electric light bulbs, mattresses, bird seed, pet food, and men's white shirts. The results of tests on washing machines, already begun, will be published at intervals next year. In giving this news, the magazine of the Consumer Service says that washing machine tests were begun some months ago in response to the top rating given them in replies to a questionnaire sent to members in 1961. They took longer than expected. with consequent delay in the publication of the results. The tests included thorough mechanical and electrical investigations, as well as “user tests” on different articles of household washing. Results of test on fullyautomatic washing machines will be published in March, on twin-tub semi-automatic machines in June, on amgletub semi-automatic machines in September, and on agitator power-wringer machines in D*c®tnb€r.
