NO CONTEST IN SPEED
Feature Of U.S. Driving fNE. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 28. Lack of speed competition was the moot notable feature of American driving. Mr P. L. Laing, Deputy Commissioner of Works, told the New Zeeland Road Federation today. American drivers were more concerned with Intelligent reading of road signs than with other drivers. They were not as courteous as British drivers, nor did they go at such high speeds. He was surprised to note speeds of 80-85 miles an hour on freeways built for speeds of 90-100 miles an hour. “I think the American way is right It is safer to be intelligent rather than polite.”
