TRAINING OF TEACHERS

Record Intake Next Year (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. Without being overoptimistic, it seemed likely that the total intake of students into teachers’ colleges next year would be above this year’s total of 1860, which was far and away the largest group ever accepted, said the Director of Education (Mr A. E. Campbell) today. The opening next year of a second teachers’ college at Auckland, the eighth in New Zealand, would make additional accommodation available. Mr Campbell said that recruitment was better than at the end of November last year. The number of applicants accepted by education boards was steadily increasL ’, even in districts which had difficulty in reaching their quotas in 19*1. A good field of applicants had been received for the oneyear course for men and women aged 25 and over, and already about 100 of these had been accepted.
