CITY TRANSPORT LICENSING
“I would be sorry to see the functions of the Christchurch Metropolitan Transport Licensing Authority taken away and given to a Government department," said Cr. H. P. Smith to the City Council last evening. He said there was a suggestion of legislation altering the powers. While in Auckland there had been a suggestion that the Auckland Transport Board had sat in judgment on itself, there had never been any problem in Christchurch and everything had been done efficiently and for the benefit of the city. The council agreed with Cr. Smith that it should protest against any legislation that would deprive the authority of its powers.
Replacement.— The Australian selectors announced tonight R. Jarman would replace W. Grouit, who has been injured, in the Australian side for the first test. — Brisbane, Nov. 27.
