RACING DAY PERMITS

Unlikely To Be More (NX. Press Association) HAMILTON, November 25. An indication that the Government would have to receive far more convincing evidence that more racing days were necessary in New Zealand before it would consent to further permits was given by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Gotz) when opening the Waikato Racing Club's new grandstand at Te Rapa on Saturday.

"There is more to it than the racing angle. The entire economy of the country has to be considered," he said. Mr Gotz also indicated that he was in favour of the centralisation of racing to some extent. He did not think it was economical to use facilities of a course a very few tunes a year. The public could be far better served if racing in a district was centralised.

"I do not mean that racing should be taken away from a district but in these days of modem travel it does not seem economical and sensible to have several mediocre courses when one good one would serve all,” he said. “Centralisation,

after all, did not mean amalgamation."
