Two hold-up suspects opened fire on pursuing police In the thick of a New York city traffic jam today, forcing passers-by to duck for cover. Police returned the fire of the alleged bandits, wounding one of the suspects critically and slightly injuring the other. Police said the two men robbed a Chinese restaurant. They fled on foot with about 3000 dollars in a bag. A restaurant employee ran after them, yelling: “Stick up. stick up.” unitii the police took over. The two men jumped into a taxi and commandeered it ait gun poimt. They opened fire on their pursuers. The driver, and his passenger, fled from the taxi.
The driver said later: "I pushed down on the door handle and then I ducked and ran like hell.” One stray bullet went through the door of a snack bar and hit the •ceiling above the heads of startled customers.
