LIZARD AN ESCAPER FROM SIDESHOW
(New Zealand Press Association)
HASTINGS, Nov. 20.
The 3ft Australian lizard found on a power pole in Pakowhai road, Hastings, on Sunday, escaped from a sideshow at the Royal Agricultural Show at the Tomoana Show Grounds about October 18. It has been at liberty in the Hastings area since. The owner, Mr B. Hoy ben. telephoned from Stratford today to find out where his lizard was being kept. He said he was not aware that the lizard was missing until he read a newspaper report yesterday. He was relieved to learn that it was in a separate pen in the CornwaU Park Aviary. When told that it was being fed on bananas, chopped up
meat and raw eggs he said: “That’s right. That’s what I feed it on.” There were two collections of reptiles at the show, the other being owned by Mr R. Newton, son of Mr and Mrs A. W. Newton, of Hastings. Mrs Newton was concerned this morning that her son might have lost the lizard without being aware of it. He is at present in Christchurch.
