INQUIRY ON FRIDAY

Positive Swab At Westport The inquiry resulting from the positive swab returned by Lucky Surprise after she had won the Durban Chief Handicap at the Westport Jockey Club’i meeting on Monday. October 1, will be held in Christchurch on Friday. This was announced yesterday by the secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Conference (Mr J. Rowley). The tribunal to hear the inquiry will consist of Mr T. A. Leitch, at Chriatahureh, Mr D. L Macdonald, ot WeHii«ton, and Mr L J. Menzies, Westport, a steward at the Westport Jockey Club. This will be the first swabbing inquiry held since the Rules of Trotting were altered last July to afiow the defendants in such cases to be represented by counsel. The rules were also altered so that swabbing cases are not decided by stipeodiaiy stewards.
