Better Batting By Victoria (NZ, Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Nov. 19. Prospects for Victoria in the Sheffield shield match against Western Australia changed dramatically on the third day today. Victoria after apparently facing certain defeat, went from 272 for seven wickets to 412 only 61 behind Western Australia's first innings total. The left-hander, R. Cowper (195 not out) scored his highest first-class tally, including 23 fours and one six. in 323 minutes. At stumps Western Australia had made 123 for seven wickets in their second innings. Scores:—Western Australia 473 and 123 for seven wickets (J. Parker 34; L Meckiff three for 45; C. Guest, two for 36; A. Connolly, two for 28) v. Victoria 412 (R. Cowper 195 not out, Meckiff 36; G. McKenzie four for 114, D. Hoare three for 77, A. Lock two for 109.
