56 Paintings Recovered

Paintings stolen from the French Riviera last year have been Sound abandoned in a town 60 miles from Paris.

The 56 paintings, valued at about £700,000, were stolen from a gallery in St Tropez in July, 1961. They were found abandoned in a bam in the township of VilliersSaint Georges. Among the stolen paintings were works by most of France’s best-known modern artists— Matisse, Dufy. Utrillo, Vlaminck, Rouault Braque, Bonnard and Deraln.
