Licensing Laws

Sir,— Reading your subleader of October 14, I am reminded of the words of Jesus Christ, “Thou hast said,” when answering Judas Iscariot’s "Master, is it I?” Your words give the impression of a rather spoiled and petulant child crying to a tired and defenceless parent: "Mummy, I wanna drink.” Finally, I repeat what I have often said in the past. The only answer to the problem of alcohol, the only method of distribution fair to all and particularly the working man, the only way you will get civilised drinking, is by having non-private-profiteering trust control of all liquor sales and compulsory seating.—Yours, etc, D. C. McKIE. Little River, October 15, 1962.
