DECLINE IN REVENUE

Mr Nordmeyer Comments

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. Labour's former Minister of Finance (Mr Nordmeyer) tonight described as “disquieting" .the statement by the present Minister (Mr Lake). that there had been a substantial decline in revenue from taxation. He said this in commenting on Mr Lake's review of the current economic situation. "The significance of the fall will not be apparent until the half-yearly accounts are released,” Mr Nordmeyer said. "But a fall in revenue which the Minister himself describes as 'substanial' is hardly consistent with his earlier claim concerning the buoyancy of the economy.”
