WINNERS IN SYDNEY
Chief Vitesse Races Well Chief Vitesse, which started -it S to 1, became a flan favourite for the £5OOO Spring Cup on October 27 when he won the Invitation Stakes at Harold Park on Saturday night. The Meadow Chief—Vitesse flve-vear-old was close up throughout and was an easy winner over the 5 to 4 on favourite. Hunter’s Folly, in the track record time of 3m in 1 2-Ssec for she lilj furlongs. Friendly Less, which raced in New Zealand under the name af Bubbles, won the Tbree-vear-Old Stakes. The Garrison Hanover—Rowan Star filly started ait 9 to 4. Tarcoola. which started at 6 to 1. beat Hy Craft in the Second Carnival Handicap. Owned and trained by A. Phillis, she is by Light Brigade from Melody Maid. New Zealand-bred placegetters on Saturday night were Chief Doubt (Meadow Chief— Quiet Evident), Cele (U. Scott— Regalia), Mary Mavis (Garrison Hanover—Grattanelto) and Summit Road (First Lord—Logan Belle).
Garry Logan At Springston Garry Logan was brought north by the Springston trainer, J. H. Winter, after he had raced at Forbury Park on Saturday night. Garry logan fell near the two furlongs in the President’s Handicap after forcing moet of tine pace. The Garrison Hanover six-year-old showed useful form over all distances last season, but it was as a sprinter that the best was seen of him. Morano Boy is a recent addition to N. L. Beckett’s team at Yaldhurst. Morano Boy was a winner at Addington in August, but he failed to Show form later. Regal Duchess is another newcomer to Becketts team. The Young Bob mare failed to win a race last term.
