LIVING ROOM DAMAGED
Minor Fires At Week-End
The living room at the home of Charles Livingstone, 107 Burks street, was badly damaged by fire at 2.16 a.m. yesterday. The outbreak was extinguished by ’two units from the Sydenham station. Children playing with matches set fire to bales of hay at the rear of the residence of William Griffin, 205 Opawa road, about 9.8 a.m. on Saturday. One unit from the Sydenham station attended. An oven fire at the home of C. A. Hadfield, 1 Delph street, Riccarton, was attended by a unit from the Sockburn station at 10.28 a.m. A rubbish fire at 16 Whitewash Head road, was extinguished by a unit from the Sumner station at 11.28 a.m. Slight damage was done when fire broke out in the wall of the house of Florence McDonald, 3 Conway street, about 11.46 am. It was attended by two units from the New Brighton station. About 50ft of gorse fence was destroyed when it was set alight by a child playing with matches at 3 Cobra street. The blaze was extinguished by a unit from the Sockburn station. One unit from the Woolston station attended a chimney fire at the home of Bernard Thomas O’Connel, 627 Ferry road, at 6.6 p.m. A chair was destroyed by a fire caused by a cigarette butt at the residence of M. Cooper, 12 Ilam road, at 6.42 p.m. One unit from the Sockburn station attended. A tube to a gas heater in the Peppermint Lounge coffee bar, 304 Durham street, ignited about 8.40 p.m. One unit from the Central station attended. The proprietor of the premises is Mr L. Gobbe.
