Strong N.Z. Team At Caulfield

(N.Z. Prtts Association—Copynpht)

MELBOURNE. Oct 12. The New Zealand horse*. Even Steven* and Cabriere, here tor the £29.960 Caulfield Cap, are expected to make an imprenatve Australian debut in the 1010 Welter at Caulfield tomorrow.

Both hone* have galloped well enough since their arrival a week ago to suggest they will run right up to their New Zealand form. Even Stevens created a new five-furlong record at Flemington yesterday and on that gallop he should win tomorrow’s race.

The jockey, L. Coles, who arrived from New Zealand late yesterday to ride Even Stevens, should be able to have him well placed all the way from No. 8 barrier position.

Even Stevens has been handicapped at 9-2 on an 8-0 minimum, so he is not badly treated.

In the Caulfield Cup (8-7 limit) he has 7-7.

The winner of the 1010 Welter cannot be penalised for the Caulfield Cup. Cabriere has won four of his last six starts and was third and second in the other two. Cabriere has not won beyond seven furlongs, but he finished second to Cracksman in the Great Northern Derby. At his last two starts he won over six furlones carrying 9-6 and 9-8. He has a lot of weight with 10-1 in the Tolo Welter and it is against him that he has drawn No. 15 at the barrier.

Other class gallopers making their debut here tomorrow will be Tara’s Pride in the Caulfield Guineas and Silver Pelt in the Herbert Power Handicap. The New Zealand-bred three-year-old. Summer Prince, is a hot favourite for the Caulfield Guineas. Summer Prince has earned the distinction because of his second to Bogan Road In the Rosehill Guineas, and his laststart win, the A.J.C. Derby. Summer Prince is rated Australia's best staying Uiree-year-old. and is on the third line of favouritism tor both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup. Quite Abie’s Jockey The Sydney jockey. G. Moore, has been offered the mount on the New Zealand stayer, Quite Able, in the Herbert Power, the trainer. R. Wallis, said today. Wallis spoke to the owner in New Zealand today about a jockey and it is likely Moore will take the ride.
