Reefton Race Conditions Were Not As Advertised

A five-year-old, Grecian Prince, won a race advertised for two and three-year-olds only ait Reefton last Saturday. The Black’s Point Novice Stakes appeared in the club’s programme in the Official Calendar on September 12 as a five-furlong race for two-year-olds and three-year-olds teat had not won an advertised flat race at time of nomination.

Two-year-olds were to carry 7-9 and three-year-olds. 8-5.

The Riccarton trainer, P. H. Jones, took the two-year-old Castle Air with- him to Westport with other members of the team so that she could start in the Reefton race. On finding that the filly was in a race against five-year-olds, Jones questioned a Reefton official and was told there had been a misprint in the advertised programme. Jones said yesterday that he would not have gone to the expense of taking the two-year-old on the circuit had he known the race was not being confined to two and three-year-olds He had received no communication from the club that the conditions of the race were any different from those published in the Official Calendar.

Only two three-year-olds and one two-year-old ran in the Black's Point Novice Stakes, but there were four

older rivals for Grecian Prince, including the five-year-olds Llandex and Coral Lagoon, which had both won at Westport.

Pepe and Winkler, both three • year - olds, finished second and third respectively. Pepe is also in P. H. Jones's team.

Grecian Prince won the Black’s Point Novice with 8- Later in the day he won the No. 2 Novice with 9- which included a rehandicap of 101 b.
