Offer Views
Concern that the Department ot Internal Affairs did not have the views of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society when considering Canada Geese was expressed by members of the society’s council.
Reference was made to correspondence received by the wildlife division concerning alleged damage to crops by the birds and steps taken to reduce the number of birds or minimise damage. When Mr R. W. S. Cavanagh, of the Wildlife Division, addressed a meeting of the game committee on September 29 he said the department's officers would have oeen in a better position if the society had expressed its views on the subject. Members of the executive have recommended that the department he advised that the society is willing at all times to express on request its view’s on any subject of mutual interest.
Special Season Approved
A special season for Canada geese has been approved by the game committee of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society from January 26 to March 10. This period was suggested by the Wildlife Division of the Department, of Internal Affairs.
The boundaries of the area have not yet been determined but will be along defined roads and part of river banks as far as practicable.
