Banana-Type Construction
The first banana-type four to be built In New Zealand which incorporates all the lateat developments tn rowing, will be launched at Kerr's Reach toBuilt for the Union Rowing Club by a local firm at a cost of about CMS, the boat’s distinctive shape la formed from a curved hull resulting tn the bow and stern sticking several inches above the water. The boat features channel type slide runners which it is hoped will ellmlnste sticking seats—a common occurrence with the old style of wheels on wood. The boat is tandem rigged but can be switched back to standaid rig. Also the rudder mechanism is placed behind the fin to allow for better manoeuvrability by the coxswain. The club has named the boat Leda, a name of special significance to Union. The original Leda, a convertible double pairs, was used by Cooper and Harris of Union, when they won this event in the 1939 and 1940 championships.
