AIRPORT RADIO

New Station Approved (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Oct. 12. A new transmitting station will be built at Christchurch Airport next year to enable radio communications facilities to be reorganised in line with airport development needs.

Expenditure of £9450 from next year's Civil Aviation Administration vote was approved by Cabinet Works Committee this week.

The new building will be placed on the far side of the main runway, half to threequarters of a mile from the terminal area.

lit will provide working space for the station radio technician and will also house a 10 k.v.a. auto-start generating unit, as the new station cannot be linked with the airport’s main standby. The Minister in charge of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine) said today that the removal next year of the present transmitting station from the terminal area would free space required by the Christchurch City Council for extensions to the airport car park.
