TREES NEAR AIRPORT

Restrictions On Nelson Flights

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Oct. 12.

Trees near Nelson’s Tahuna beach camping reserve are a thing of beauty for holidaymakers. and greatly cherished by the plantation’s owner, the Nelson City Council, but from tomorrow they will force the National Airways Corporation to restrict loadings in and out of Nelson in certain winds and weather. Civil Aviation Administration passed the restrictions to N.A.C. today, and the corporation communicated them to the city council. To ensure that N.A.C. would conitinue to transport all passengers booked it would have reserve aircraft standing by, the assistant general manager (Mr J. K. Grocott) said.

To provide the aircraft it would be necessary to obtain Friendships at present serving Blenheim.' These would be replaced on the Blenheim service by DC3’s. Mr Grocotit said N.A.C. hoped Labour week-end traffic would not be affected. Wing Commander L. F. P. Taylor, deputy director of Civil Aviation, said tonight that a plantation at the north, ern end of the field was the trouble. It was hard to keep surveying the height of trees to ensure they did not obstruct. Care had to be taken in topping to make sure the right ones were dealt with.
