USING DAIRY SURPLUSES
Aid For Poor Countries?
(NJ!. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Oct. 8. A tentative plan to use world dairy surpluses to help under-developed countries would be discussed by the Australian Dairy Produce Board at its meeting late this month, the chairman of the board (Mr E. G. Roberts) said today. Mr Roberts said the plan, still in its formative stages, followed recent discussions in London between Australian, New Zealand and British dairy industry leaders. He added he could give no details of the plan, but in essence it involved using dairy surpluses to build markets for the future. Mr Roberts said: “The dairy industries of the world are entering an era of acute marketing problems. Rapidly rising production is outstripping demand and surpluses of butter, cheese and milk powder are increasing.” If surpluses continued to build up, cool-storage space could become a serious problem. "These are the reasons for this tentative international marketing plan,” he said.
