Schuurman, of South Africa, 6-3, B-3, yesterday to win the women's singles title of the Pacific Coast international tennis tournament. J. E. Lundquist, of Sweden, defeated D. Ralston, of the United States, 3-6. 6-1. 6-3, 6-4, to win the men’s final
W. Hoogs and J. McManus defeated Ralston and R. Barnhart, 19-17, 7-5, in the allAmerican men’s doubles final.
Miss Hard and Miss M. Bueno, of Brazil, beat Miss E Starke, of England, and Miss J. Tegart, of Australia, 6-4. 6-2, in the women’s doubles final.
Miss C. Truman In Melbourne
(N.Z. Press Assn.— Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 1. The British tennis star. Miss C. Truman, will be coached in Melbourne by H. Hopman in a bid to retrieve top form before the Australian summer tournaments. When she arrived in Melbourne today, she said this was the reason she had come to Australia so long before the tournament season. Miss Truman said it was impossible to get much tennis in England during the winter months and' that she was anxious to go on to the courts for practice.
Challenges For Shield, Casket
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. October 1. Wellington and Waikato have both challenged for .the Wilding tennis shield at present held by Auckland, and the same two associations, together wtih Auckland, have lodged challenges for the Nunneley casket at present held by North Shore. Tme challenges were received at tonight's meeting of the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association.
