CUTTS ROAD SCHOOL
Approval By Government
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 1.
The Canterbury Education Board has been authorised to accept a tender for the .erection of a new school in the Avonhead district in Christchurch.
The Minister of Education (Mr Tennent) made this announcement in a message today to Mr M. A. Connelly, member of Parliament for Riccarton.
“Although only this year a new school- Was opened in Waimairi road,” said the Minister, ■'the rate of housing development in the district makes it imperative that further relief be provided for the older established schools at Riccarton and Avonhead.” The new school, which will be in Cutts road, is planned to open in February next with four classrooms, an administration block and a dental clinic. It will provide for a roll of 160 pupils. Eventually the school will grow to 12 classrooms with a capacity of 480 pupils.
