QUALIFYING TRIALS
Smart Run By Solemn Solemn recorded fastest time of 3:25 2-5 for one mile and a half when four qualifying heats were run at the Methven trials yesterday. Only three of the first four place-getters in four heats managed to better Uie required 3:29. Solemn, a three-year-old halfsister by Flying Song to Kulha in G. Cameron's New Brighton team, raced right away from her rivals in the straight and won most convincingly. She has been disappointing in her races to date, but went much better yesterday. The only other two to qualify —Bluff and Sirretta—are also three-year-olds.- Bluff beat Sirretta by a head in the third heat. He is a likelv type of gelding by Morano from Rosy Morn and Is trained at Annat by his owner, O. J. Watson. Sirretta is trained at Templeton by F. E. Newfield for Mr G. Brown.
