VALUELESS CHEQUES
Cutter Admits 17 Charges (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept. 25. Thomas James Ewing, aged 35, a clothing cutter, pleaded guilty to 17 charges of issuing valueless cheques when he appeared before Mr W. S. Spence, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland this morning.
He was convicted on all charges and remanded in cus. tody for a week for sentence. Senior-Sergeant K. O. Thompson said Ewing obtained a cheque book from the Bank of New Zealand at Dunedin when he entered a deposit of £2O there in August He then travelled about the country issuing valueless cheques. Goods, property and credit amounting to £193 17s lid were obtained. Property valued at £9l had been recovered.
