(N .Z.PA-Reuter—Copyright) SINGAPORE. Sept. 19 The New Zealand national basketball team had its first defeat on its Far Eastern tour when it was beaten by Tong Keng Cagers. Singapore’s senior basketball champions. 61-50. at Singapore last night. Towering head and shoulders oxer their opponents, the Kiwis did not make full use of this advantage and lost most of the rebounds. Their shooting left much to be desired. After ten minutes of play New Zealand was trailing 9-12. The team settled down after this, however, and five minutes before half-time, when they called their time out, were on level terms at 23-23. However. Singanore had a 35-27 lead at naif-time. Ten minutes from the end Tong Keng punctured the New Zealand defence to go on to win: by a comfortable 11-point margin.
