GRAVEL PIT RESERVES

City Council To Keep Control

Th.? City Council decided last evening that it would retain control over two reserves in the Rakaia district. They were originally vested in the council as reserves for gravel extraction, but have been leased as farmlands for many years.

The reserves ~ committee agreed with the Commissioner of Crown Lands that it was unlikely that the reserves would ever be used as gravel pits; but said the reserves were producing and should be kept so. The committee added that many of the Summit road reserves were in poor condition when taken over by the council, but they had improved greatly under the council’s control and the farming areas had been brought into greater production.
