WELLINGTON. Sept 19
One of the House of Commons' most widely travelled members. Colonel Sir Tufton Beamish, arrived in Wellington today and said: “I have come to New Zealand to size up, at first hand, the attitude here to Britain joining the European Common Market, and to express my views on the proposal in its wider world context" Sir Tufton Beamish is member of Parliament for Lewes, and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Conservative Party. He arrived from Sydney by air and will spend a week in New Zealand Sir Tufton Beamish said it had been hoped to have the terms of Britain's entry settled by August 1. and the fact that date had not seen the entry concluded was indicative of Britain’s determination to do the best possible for other members of the Commonwealth This is his first visit to New Zealand “Though my programme here is a full one. I shall be able to spend one day fishing on Lake Taupo,” h' said.
