Mr J. Child has been appointed assistant city accountant by the City Council to succeed Mr A. W. Mahony. Mr Child has been on the council staff since 1936 and recently has been internal auditor.
Mr P. L. Schignell will take up the position of director of the Diocesan Board of Christian Education on October 1. He hag been headmaster at the Royal Air Force secondary school in Singapore for the last three years. Appreciation of the services of Crs. W. R. Campbell and J. R. Smith, who are not seeking re-election, was expressed by the last meeting of the City Council last evening.
Miss I. V. Shrimpton, secretary of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce, a specially invited guest at the annual meeting of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association last evening, was presented with a bouquet of flowers. The president of the association (Mr R H. Stewart) in making the presentation, said it marked Miss Shrimpton’s 23 years of service with the Chamber of Commerce and, through that office, wrth almost all businessmen in Christchurch.
