CREW CHANGE FOR GRETEL

Navigator Replaces Co-Helmsman

(NZ. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEWPORT (Rhode Island). September 17. The co-helmsman. A. Robertson, has been dropped from Gretel's crew for the second America's Cup race tomorrow. The Australian selectors tonight replaced the experienced Sydney skipper with T. Hammond, a navigator. The move followed criticism in some quarters that a navigational error might have cost Gretel the first race against the United States defender. Weatherley. on Saturday. Hammond was a surprise omission from the first race crew. His job was taken over by M. Halvorsen, with the assistance of an electronic navltation aid. The experience of aturday’s race showed that the aid could not replace an experienced navigator. The selection means that the Australian skipper. J. Sturrock will be on his own in a battle of tactics with Weatherley’s captain. E. Mosbacher.
