Lawn Tennis Private Tour Planned

(NZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 18. The Auckland Lawn Tennis Association will support a private move by L. A. Gerrard. I. S. Crookenden and J. S. Halligan to tour Australia in November and December because it believes a short tour will sharpen up the players for tournament play in New Zealand later. The association was awaiting a reply from the New Zealand association to a letter saying it approved the tour, the chairman of the management committee (Mr N. Barclay) said today.

Trophy For A ‘‘Grand Slam”

I (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Sept. 18. A ‘grand slam'' trophy to mark Rod Laver's four major title wine thia year is to be created by the Australian Lawn Tennis Association. The L.T.A.A. president (Mr N Strange) last nleht described Laver's performance as “a wonderful achievement."

R. McCutcheon Beat A. Brooks

H. McCutcheon and A. Brooks, close rivals in junior tennis in Christchurch, met on the first night of ranking matches held bv the Canterbury Junior Lawn Tennis Association at Wilding Park this week. McCutcheon won, 6-3, 6-2. More players from secondary schools and clubs are expected to take part in the ranking matches in the next few weeks. Results were:— R. McCutcheon beat A. Brooks, 6-3. 6-2; J. Brebner beat w Edgecumbe, 1-6, 6-5. 5-5; A. Gowans beat J. Mitchell. 9-4; R. Rodgers beat A. Cronin, 9-4; D. Meredith beat L. Thom. 9-4; D Dillon beat D Thom. 9-4; J. Griffiths beat L. Legge. 9-5: J. Marden beat P. Clarke, 9-7.
